MONX is preparing to establish a small non-profit patient center.
The center begins with the originating medical case and is designed to support other patients in the future whose treatment needs cannot be met within their current healthcare system.
It provides a stable physical and logistical environment where the case can be supported continuously, technical work and product development can progress, outside specialists and services can be coordinated, income systems can be built, and MONX’s humanitarian activity can continue under one practical structure.
Why this mission exists
MONX began during the attempt to solve the severe structural injury of one of its founders, which began in 2016.
The case involves several connected injuries, unusual anatomy, instability and continuing physical deterioration. It crosses several medical specialities, so the injuries must be understood and treated together.
Relevant treatment methods exist, but they must be selected, adapted, coordinated and carried out with extreme precision.
The case has required treatment, coordination and practical support beyond what has been available through the healthcare and public funding systems.
That process revealed that many other patients are stuck in similar situations, without a clear path forward.
MONX grew into a wider effort to create practical solutions around medical, technical and humanitarian needs.
The capacity built around the originating case is intended to remain in place for future patients.
When possible, MONX will also establish a small coordination unit in Iceland and between countries to support Icelandic patients, coordinate their access to the center and support humanitarian work.
Patient environment
Medical cases often require reliable daily support before diagnosis and treatment can move forward.
A patient environment is the physical and practical structure required to keep a patient stable enough for diagnosis and treatment to continue.
For many patients, basic support, appropriate imaging and access to experienced specialists may be enough to complete diagnosis and create a clearer path forward.
It includes:
accessible long term patient friendly accommodation;
reliable food and nutritional support;
medication and medical continuity;
recovery, sleep and rehabilitation support;
daily nursing and practical assistance;
transport and appointment coordination;
storage and organization of medical and technical materials.
Working cell
The working cell is a small medical, engineering and coordination unit built to develop the treatment route for the originating case and, over time, support other complex cases.
It includes:
medical records and imaging consolidation;
three dimensional anatomical reconstruction and supporting software work;
mapping of the injuries, instability and mechanical forces involved;
biomechanical modelling and simulation to estimate how proposed corrections may affect the body;
engineering and treatment design;
research coordination;
communication with surgeons, hospitals and technical specialists;
preparation of clear material for engineering review and surgical planning.
Why a connection to India?
The patient center is intended to create a stable environment where complex cases can be supported over time while diagnosis, treatment planning and technical work move forward.
A connection to India gives MONX access to the medical, technical and practical infrastructure needed to build that environment at a workable scale. It also creates a route through which patients can be supported locally in Iceland, coordinated between countries and connected to a more continuous treatment environment when needed.
India, particularly Bengaluru, offers the combination needed for this stage:
extensive medical infrastructure, engineering and software talent, high quality imaging and testing, manufacturing connections, practical operating costs and local support.
This allows MONX to build a focused cooperation network quickly and at a practical cost, while developing the medical and technical capacity needed for both the originating case and future patients.
MONX will also continue food distribution and practical support locally. 25 percent supports children in India through food distribution and direct practical support. A further 25 percent supports Icelandic patients who need access to the center, including practical costs and the technical or scientific research work required around their cases.
Initial milestones
1. Establish the base
Secure accessible long term accommodation, practical assistance, food and medication continuity, together with the basic working and logistical environment needed for the medical case and wider MONX work.
2. Establish the working cell
Build the local medical, technical and organizational structure required for sustained treatment development and the wider MONX work around it, with capacity to support future patients.
3. Consolidate the case
Organize imaging, medical records, measurements, surgical findings and biomechanical questions into one usable technical package.
4. Build the digital model
Develop the anatomical reconstruction, map the injuries and instability and begin the initial biomechanical simulations.
5. Develop the treatment route
Use the medical findings, digital model and engineering work to adapt relevant treatment methods to the specific anatomy and mechanics of the case.
6. Begin specialist review
Present the work to appropriate surgeons, engineers and medical specialists and refine the treatment and development route.
7. Continue product development
Continue MONX products, software and other sustainable income systems that can finance the wider work beyond supporter contributions and contribute practical value to society.
8. Continue humanitarian action
Continue food distribution and direct practical aid alongside the scientific and technical work.
The establishment and development of the India operation will be documented as the work progresses.
First goal
Our first goal is a combined 500 pre-orders, MONX membership packages and tea subscriptions.
This would create the continuity needed to establish the patient center, build the working cell, continue humanitarian action and complete and activate MONX’s first product lines so they can begin generating independent income for the wider work.
Each pre-order, membership package or tea subscription helps create the foundation from which MONX can operate, grow and become increasingly self sustaining over time.
Reporting
Each month, we’ll send supporters a report covering:
funds received and major spending categories;
completed milestones;
current medical and technical work;
development of the treatment route;
product development and income systems;
humanitarian activity;
problems encountered;
the next operational objectives.
